Hudson Valley Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution. Our members elect a volunteer Board of Directors to represent their interests. Through a constructive partnership, the Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, and HVCU Leadership are responsible for the ongoing success of our organization. HVCU Board Committees are designed to support board initiatives and have a specific scope to enable the ongoing success and forward progress of the credit union.
If you are within our field of membership and have skills in negotiation, business strategy, human resources, or governance, your experience can truly make an impact for individuals across the Hudson Valley and Capital Region.
Volunteer Eligibility
- Each volunteer must be at least 18 years old.
- Each candidate must be a member who has not caused a financial loss to the credit union and/or is not in denial of services.
- Each candidate must have a satisfactory credit check, a background check, a bondablity check, and must not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving dishonesty or breach of trust, nor have been determined to be guilty of a fraudulent act by a legally constituted body.
- Candidates cannot have been an employee of Hudson Valley Credit Union within a minimum of two years from the application received date.

Director or Associate Board Member
HVCU’s Board of Directors and Associate Board Members are responsible for the governance, strategic direction, and fiduciary oversight of our organization. They must effectively execute the critical leadership, legal and stewardship responsibilities and act in the best interest of the members of HVCU. Board Members/Associate Board Members play a vital role, in constructive partnership with executive leadership, in shaping the strategic direction of the credit union.
Applicants who are well-suited for this role:
- Have experience in critical and strategic thinking
- Have a demonstrated ability to focus on the future
- Are independent-minded and can work to build consensus
- Have an ability to read and understand financial statements
- Understand risk
- Have an ability to analyze organizational performance
Supervisory Committee
The Supervisory Committee is responsible for ensuring that HVCU operates within all regulatory frameworks and adheres to the highest standards of financial integrity. Responsibilities of the Supervisory Committee include monitoring the financial reporting process, assessing risks, evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, and overseeing the performance of both independent and internal auditors. Members of this committee work closely with the credit union’s Internal Audit Department.
Applicants who are well-suited for this role possess experience in:
- Financial ratios
- Audit standards (including GAAP)
- Management oversight
- Legal/regulatory compliance

Compensation and Benefits Committee
The Compensation and Benefits Committee is responsible for recommending executive compensation and reviewing executive and/or employee benefit arrangements for alignment with credit union philosophy. Members of this committee work closely with the credit union’s Human Resources Department.
Applicants who are well-suited for this role have experience in:
- Designing and overseeing compensation and benefits programs
- Analyzing people data, labor rules and regulations
- Policy development
- Executive-level performance reviews
Governance and Nominations Committee
The Governance and Nominations Committee is responsible for helping the Board ensure the effectiveness of HVCU’s governance and leadership. Responsibilities of the GNC include ensuring articulated processes aligned with HVCU’s values, including Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging are followed in relation to Volunteer appointment and ensuring alignment among HVCU Bylaws, policies and Board procedures in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
Applicants who are well-suited for this role have:
- An understanding of effective governance, roles, and responsibilities of a credit union’s leadership in terms of constructive partnership
- An understanding of appropriate governance and committee structure design
Nominations Sub-Committee
The Nominations Sub-Committee is responsible for overseeing the volunteer recruitment and nomination process. Through a working partnership with the Board and all committees, the NSC cultivates a volunteer pipeline and screening process to ensure that appointed volunteers have the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to represent the diversity of HVCU’s communities and provide effective governance.
